Our Government

The government of Cameroon is a presidential republic, where the President is the head of state and government. The President is elected by the people for a seven-year term and holds a lot of power. Cameroon has two houses in its legislature: the Senate and the National Assembly, which make and pass laws. The judicial branch is led by the Supreme Court. The political system is marked by a strong executive branch and a centralized administration.

Our current government regime was established after gaining independence in 1960, evolving into a presidential republic with a strong executive branch led by the President.

Paul Biya is the President of Cameroon and one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders. He plays a central role in the country’s government, wielding significant influence and authority.

Cameroon has two official languages: French and English. Additionally, there are over 200 local languages spoken across the country.

The full name of the Prime Minister of Cameroon is Joseph Dion Ngute. He has been serving as Prime Minister since January 2019, overseeing government administration and policies.
